5 Relenting Steps to Pass Adversity

“Enthusiasm is the energy and force that builds literal momentum of the human soul and mind.” — Bryant McGill

Personal development is a lifestyle commitment to ongoing self-improvement and self-discovery. Practicing a relentless focus, pursuing a worthy objective generates momentum over time; it’s lifelong learning at its best. Conrad Hall wisely states, “You are always a student, never a master. So you have to keep moving forward.”

John Maxwell advises keeping the “emphasis on growing – rather than arriving… there is one key reason to pursue growth…this outcome has the most power to change our lives in every way.” Think of it, a relentless pursuit of a worthy objective generates such momentum that it makes you better, opens doors of opportunity, and encourages those around you to grow and join the pursuit.

Entertaining Conceivable Probabilities

“Possibility thinking means you use your imagination and look to the future to determine what is possible.” - Natalie Bacon

Of course, when entertaining probabilities, we are dealing with a degree of uncertainty. However, our starting point is always possibility thinking. Once we determine our vision is possible, there’s a high probability we will reach our objectives, making our dream a present reality. Statistically, those giving to a possibility mindset are more likely given to a personal development lifestyle.

Because they continue growing, they continue generating momentum; their growth creates opportunities that acquire the necessary people and resources to make their vision a reality.

Developing an Abundance Mindset

“When you want something, all the universe conspires in helping you to achieve it.” – Paulo Coelho

Our thought patterns flow from our paradigms on life. If we entertain an abundance mindset, we will see a world filled with opportunities; When we see the world through a scarcity mindset, we will see roadblocks at every turn minimizing our potential. Suze Orman says, “Abundance is about being rich, with or without money.”

Lyn Christian notes that “Living in abundance means to see the endless potential in yourself and others. When you expand your perspective and develop an abundance mindset, you can open your life up to limitless opportunities.” (1)

First Steps toward an abundance mindset:

  1. Begin where you are with what you have and learn to multiply it.

  2. Surround yourself with thought leaders possessing an abundant mindset.

  3. Become an avid reader of books, articles, search YouTube viewing thought leaders.

  4. Develop an “attitude of gratitude” for family, friends, team members, opportunities, and assets.

  5. Regardless of present conditions, always believe there’s more.

As important as an abundance mindset is, consistent growth is how change happens. When we practice the discipline of lifelong learning, progress is inevitable. Moreover, improving ourselves raises the potential of those around us as well.

The Power of Persistence

Dr. Myles Munroe writes, "For you to succeed, you need, A purpose, A plan, A passion, People, And you need to be persistent."

Persistent is a consistent insistence that you have what you are going after. To be persistent means you refused to stop; nobody can prevent you from accomplishing your goal. Persistence means you will stand against every opposition. Whatever you are born to do will not be given to you; you gotta go and get it.

Whatever you are born to do is hugely behind a locked door, and you have to push the door open. Also, whatever you are born to do will not come easy even though it is simple. You have to be persistent and consistently insistent that is what you were born to have.”

“You may encounter many defeats, but you must not be defeated.” - Maya Angelou
